Woman robbed, choked to death

Pagadian City – Police authorities are still facing a blank wall regarding the identities of the suspects linked to the gruesome robbery-homicide incident at the residence of a businesswoman at Brgy. Balangasan recently. The victim, identified as Esther Geñoso Miñales, the 56-year-old owner of E&G Store, was found dead at her bedroom hog-tied and suffocated by a masking tape on her mouth, a t-shirt cloth covering her nose and a pillow that was apparently pushed against her face.

It was gathered that around 3 a.m., at least three suspects climb up through a banana plant that leaned to the roof of a one-storey structure adjacent to the two-story residential-commercial building of the victim. The robbers leaped over the façade and took three jalousies of a window of an empty front room at the second floor of the building.

After some time, the robbers then knocked at the door of the room occupied by two housekeepers, but the housekeepers did not open the door, as the robbers did not answer when asked who they were.

Later, the thieves thumped the room of Genaro, the victim’s husband who occupied different room. When he opened the door, the suspects, who wore masks, told him to go to his wife. He complied without asking why. Finding her wife breathless, Genaro cried for help. The suspects immediately fled from the scene.

Witnesses theorized that before the horrible murder, the suspects firstly looted saleable items from the store located at the ground floor of the building. Relatives of the victim confirmed the loss but could not quantify the actual volume of merchandise taken as they were still on the process of counting inventory.

Afterwards, the burglars proceeded to the room of the victim. When victim opened the door, the suspects punched Esther several times to prevent her from screaming loud. At a local funeral parlor, two large bruises were spotted on the victim’s breast. Another contusion was found on the left side of her body and on her left arm. Several discoloration that suggests previous fist blows were also found on both legs of the victim.

The vandals then plastered the mouth of the victim with strips of masking tape, covered her nose with cloth and pushed a pillow against the face of the victim. The victim was choked to death.

Reports said the murderers carted away the victim’s necklace worth P10 thousand, three rings, a wristwatch, and P60 thousand cash.

It can be recalled that in November 2009, the videoke machine of E&G Store was ransacked. The suspects ran away with P2 thousand. In April 2010, another group of thieves looted more than P500 in coins from the same machine. Last May, unidentified armed men held up Esther in her store at broad daylight. The robbers took a thousand pesos in cash.

Police authorities are now conducting follow-up operations to identify the suspects. The family of the victim is poised to avail of the services of forensic experts to help find clues leading to the arrest of the suspects.
