Local jobseekers sought

The Pagadian Employment Service Office (PESO) is pooling work force in the city, drawing close to 1000 Pagadianon applicants to date for a range of local jobs. The PESO, a city government office, which specializes manpower planning, is set up to determine the number and types of personnel required by private companies, commercial establishments and other organizations or institutions that operate in not only in Pagadian City but anywhere else.

Placing the qualified people in jobs, the PESO maximizes employment opportunities for Pagadianons, especially when the city is now the new regional center, and forecasts staffing requirements of the different business industries or organizations in Pagadian City and in neighboring towns.

But the PESO is prioritizing jobseekers that come from Pagadian City. Jobseekers from other towns are advised to coordinate with their respective local public employment office.

For the first half of the year, the Pagadian PESO has registered 978 local job applicants. Local business establishments hired 361 and agency-based jobs catered 172 applicants.

Disqualified applicants are requested to undergo pre-employment seminar to upgrade their personalities and to improve their resume to make them more competitive.

Potential jobseekers are urged to visit the PESO unit for easy booking and job matching.
The PESO is booking for house helpers, sales clerks, hotel attendants, dressmakers, and office/technical staff to occupy vacancies offered by different establishments in the city. Store managers, janitors, messengers, waiters and drivers have open prospects just as plumbers, laborers, welders, masons and carpenters have ready employers.

Plans are drawn for job placements abroad, even. The PESO is coordinating with concerned agencies like the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Philippine Overseas Employment Office (POEA) to assure smooth job placements.

When successful applicants are placed, PESO watches over them. The agency oversees work conditions, follows up appropriate wages and salaries, and encourages employers to extend fringe benefits like paid holidays, overtime pay and health insurance.

Nevertheless, in the spirit of industrial peace, as pointed out by Pagadian PESO Manager Engr. Vince Quipot, issues on salaries and wages are discussed and negotiated by the employers and employees.
