Corvera assures more police force in Pagadian, Zambosur

Pagadian City – The newly installed Philippine National Police regional director PCSupt. Edwin Inventor Corvera has pledged for more police officers to be stationed in the Provincial Police Office and in the Pagadian City Police Station.

In a brief interview with the media, Corvera said he is considering more personnel to augment the police force. Nevertheless, he stressed that for the meantime, personnel of the Provincial Mobile Group keep their station in Pagadian City to boost law enforcement.

Accordingly, a 114-personnel police force is watching over the city in a ratio of one officer in every 1500 residents of Pagadian. The ratio respective of population is burdensome for the police force, which should have operated in a ratio of one officer in every 500 people. In Zamboanga Peninsula, the ratio is believed to have blown to 1:1700 due to fast migration rate.

To date, the PNP Region 9 has only the force of 4,620 uniformed personnel, including the 116 non-uniformed personnel detailed at the Regional Mobile Group. On the national range, the PNP has only 140,000 personnel scattered over different police stations.

Corvera, who replaced C/Supt. Angel Hipolito Sunglao as PNP regional director, said he is presently ensuring the readiness of police forces assigned in the province, adding that the regional office is checking the morale of all PNP personnel.

When asked about the completion of the new PNP Station building in Pagadian, Corvera revealed City Mayor Sammy Co has promised support and subsidy to complete the under-construction building.
Mayor Co, on the other hand, thanked Corvera during a courtesy call at the city hall. The mayor asked for the blueprint of the PNP building, including the plans and designs.

“We cannot just subsidize the construction of the PNP building without knowing it plans and designs,” said Co, adding that he is reassuring sustained support to police works. He reiterated the City Government would sustain rice subsidy, financial and logistics assistance. He also pledged legal assistance in case the officers encounter trouble in line of duty.
