Aurora Cerilles pushes for provincial road conversion

Zamboanga del Sur - In a bid to convert the Zamboanga del Sur provincial road to a national road, Congresswoman Aurora ‘Auring’ E. Cerilles is sponsoring House Bill 1356 to improve the condition of the provincial highway.
House Bill 1356, named an act converting the provincial road from Barangay Poblacion Dumalinao passing through the municipalities of San Pablo, Dinas, Dimataling, Tabina, Pitogo, Vincenzo Sagun and Margosatubig, Province of Zamboanga del Sur into a national road otherwise known as the Zamboanga del Sur Coastal Road, was filed by Cerilles last month and is now pending in Congress.

It can be recalled that former congressman Antonio H. Cerilles, now governor, shared the same intent of converting the provincial road to a national road. On the other hand, Auring Cerilles, when she was governor, had been working out for the said convertion.
Auring Cerilles had said it was easier for a national road to find funds for improvement as the national government could appropriate subsidy for highway improvement, particularly in concreting.
In contrast, provincial road remains a responsibility of the province, thus, appropriation of funds would come from the revenues of the province.
It was estimated that the Zamboanga del Sur Coastal Road would costs about Php 500 million at minimum to improve.
In related development, Governor Tony Cerilles said he had spoken to technical people representing the Growth Equity for Mindanao (GEM), a group devoted to infrastructure development, workforce preparation and business growth.
GEM is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and implemented in partnership with the Mindanao Economic Development Council.
The governor revealed he had presented the plight of the Zamboanga del Sur Coastal Road to the panel. The governor said they have also discussed details on how to avail of GEM programs and projects.
