Women take part in tree planting to mark Environment Month

MALAYBALAY CITY - In celebration of the World Environment Month, Malaybalay City has joined the whole world in planting locally-endemic trees.

Over 100 members of the Malaybalay City Federation of Local Councils Of Women, Inc. (MCFLCW, Inc.) planted 400 high-quality-grafted planting stocks taken from superior trees such as mahogany on a 2-hectare land at Brgy. Can-ayan on June 25.

This activity, spearheaded by City Councilor Mya Analene D. Rosos, is a follow-through of last year’s tree planting event that also involved cooperation with the MCFLCW, Inc.

For its massive tree planting efforts and other environmental initiatives like waste segregation and clean and green programs, the MCFLCW, Inc. is recognized by the local government as commendable advocate for preserving biodiversity.

It was learned the provincial government had also joined hands in tree planting on different open lands and forest areas in Bukidnon.

During the general assembly of women’s groups in Malaybalay on the same day, Atty. Rosos, who chairs the Committee on Women Children and Family of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, thanked everyone who took part on the environmental activity.

She stressed that tree planting is not just a project but a commitment, and that the women have significant roles to preserve nature.

In another development, the Committee on Women, Children and Family of the Sangguniang Panlungsod is sponsoring the 2011 Search for Most Outstanding Women Organization in Malaybalay.

The contest aims to identify barangay-based women organizations that have displayed exceptional social and fiscal management and to recognize the efforts of the beneficiaries of livelihood programs in Malaybalay City in making their projects economically viable and sustainable.

All women’s organizations in the barangay level, with particular emphasis on those who have implemented livelihood programs/projects assisted by the City Mayor’s Office and the Vice-Mayor’s Office are the participants of the contest.

The evaluation team/board of judges, which is composed of representatives from the City Mayor’s Office, CSWD, City ENR, CPDO, City Budget Office n DILG and the Office of SP Rosos, will be evaluating the organizations on the following schedule: Upper Pulangi Barangays, July 6-7; Basakan Barangays, July 8-11; Highway Barangays, July 14-15;                   Poblacion 2 Barangays, July 18-20; and Poblacion 1 Barangays, July 21-22.

Accordingly, recognition to the outstanding organizations is slated in September 2011.
