Mayor Co calls for vigilance, teamwork

Following last week’s bombing in the arrival area of the Zamboanga City airport, City Mayor Samuel S. Co is urging residents to exercise due watchfulness and teamwork to prevent atrocities in Pagadian.

In his message in his weekly radio program Mayor’s Report, Co said he has ordered more tightened security in vital installations in the city, including the Pagadian City Airport that resumed flight operations just this year.

“We have issued special instructions to the airport manager to wield extra effort in enhancing security measures,” said Co. He also added that these times calls for alertness and that we have no time to “relax.”

The Mayor strongly advised the public to report to the city mayor’s office or to police authorities in case they spot suspicious-looking personalities in public areas.

Commenting on the bombing incident, Co confirmed the violence was not an act of terrorism but a politically motivated aggression.

From previous media briefing, Mayor Co, when asked about the capability of the City in preserving the security of residents in events of atrocities, said that government forces are ready to answer emergencies.

“The 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, 53rd IB, Regional and Provincial Mobile Group of the PNP, Provincial and City Police, Military Police and the Philippine Coastguard are well set for immediate response against hostilities,” Co revealed.

He also pointed out that the city is also banking on the National Bureau of Investigation, the Traffic Management group, the CAFGU, K9 Group and Explosive Ordnance Division for added precautions against aggression.
